Checking and replacing fuses
The electrical circuits in your car are protected from short circuits by a combination of fuses and circuit breakers. This greatly reduces the chance of a fire due to electrical problems.
Look at the silver strip inside the fuse. If the strip is broken or melted, replace the fuse. Be sure to replace the faulty fuse with a new one of the same size and rating.
If you run into trouble on the road and don’t have a spare fuse, you can borrow a fuse of the same amperage. Just pick a feature of your car that you can live without — like the radio or cigarette lighter — and use the fuse if it’s rated for the amperage. Replace it as soon as possible.
Notification
- Before replacing a fuse, make sure the key has been removed from the ignition and that all services are turned off and/or disconnected.
- Do not repair fuses and never replace a blown fuse with a fuse of higher current rating. This may cause damage to the electrical system and fire.
- Never replace a broken fuse with anything other than a new fuse. Always use a good fuse of the same color.
- If the fuse blows again, contact a qualified service center.
Engine Compartment Fuse Box Diagram
The engine compartment fuse box is located in the engine compartment on the driver’s side. To remove the cover, press in on the tabs at the ends of the cover and lift. To replace the cover, align the tabs and press down on the cover until the tabs snap into place.

Windscreen wiper fuses
The windshield wiper motor is protected by a circuit breaker and a fuse. If the motor overheats due to heavy snow or ice, the wiper will stop until the motor cools down. If the overload is caused by an electrical problem, be sure to fix it.
Electric windows and other electrical devices
Circuit breakers protect power windows and other electrical accessories. When the current load is too great, the circuit breaker opens and closes, protecting the circuit until the problem is corrected or goes away.
Power circuit breakers and heated seats
Located under the front seat on the driver’s side is an automatic switch that controls the power and heated seat functions.
