The Renault Clio IV (Clio 4) was produced from 2012 to 2019 and was available in hatchback and estate versions, including the Renault Clio Sport Tourer. Depending on the market and model year, the Clio 4 was offered with several petrol and diesel engines.

This guide explains the Renault Clio 4 fuse box locations, fuse assignments and relay functions, including the passenger compartment fuse box and the engine compartment fuse and relay box.

You will also find information about the fuses associated with the cigarette lighter / 12V socket, fuel pump, starter, ABS/ESP, air conditioning, headlights, heated rear window and other electrical systems.

Important: Fuse and relay assignments may vary depending on the production year, engine, trim level and electrical equipment installed in the vehicle. Always compare the diagram with the fuse information supplied with your specific Renault Clio.

Renault Clio 4 Fuse Box Locations

The Renault Clio IV normally has two main fuse locations:

  • Passenger compartment fuse box – behind the dashboard trim on the driver’s side.
  • Engine compartment fuse and relay box – under the hood, on the left-hand side of the engine compartment.

Passenger Compartment Fuse Box

Location

The interior fuse box is installed under the dashboard on the driver’s side.

It is protected by a removable trim panel. Remove the cover carefully to access the fuses.

The exact appearance of the fuse panel can differ slightly depending on the vehicle’s equipment and production year.

Renault Clio 4 Cigarette Lighter Fuse

If the cigarette lighter or 12V socket has stopped working, check fuse No. 17, rated at 15A, in the passenger compartment fuse box first.

Before installing a replacement fuse, check the socket for coins, metallic objects or damaged accessories that could have caused a short circuit.

Never replace a 15A fuse with a fuse of a higher rating.

Renault Clio 4 Engine Compartment Fuse Box

Location

The main engine-bay fuse and relay unit is located under the hood on the left side of the engine compartment.

The unit is protected by a plastic cover.

Disconnect the ignition and switch off electrical consumers before inspecting or replacing engine-compartment fuses.

There may also be a diode associated with the air-conditioning compressor clutch circuit.

Renault Clio 4 Relay Assignment

Depending on the engine and electrical configuration, the engine-compartment fuse box can contain relays for systems such as:

RelayFunction
Starter relayControls starter operation
Reverse-light relayControls reversing-light circuit on applicable versions
Alarm relayAlarm siren circuit
Cooling-fan relayControls cooling system fan operation
Main engine-management relaySupplies engine-management components
A/C compressor relayControls electromagnetic compressor clutch
Fuel-pump relayControls fuel-pump power supply

Relay positions can vary significantly between different Renault Clio 4 engines and production years.

Renault Clio 4 Fuel Pump Fuse and Relay

When diagnosing a Renault Clio 4 that cranks but does not start, the fuel-pump electrical circuit is one of the systems worth checking.

Depending on the version, the relevant circuits include:

Passenger compartment:

  • Fuse 22 – injection, starting and fuel-module circuits.

Engine compartment:

  • EF14 – 25A – engine-management, injection and fuel-pump related circuits.
  • Fuel-pump relay – depending on fuse-box configuration.

A blown fuse does not necessarily mean the fuse itself is the underlying problem. A short circuit, damaged wiring or failing electrical component may cause the replacement fuse to blow again.

Renault Clio 4 Starter Fuse

The engine-compartment EF12 30A fuse is associated with the starter circuit.

If the engine does not crank, also check:

  • battery voltage;
  • battery terminals;
  • starter relay;
  • starter motor;
  • ground connections;
  • immobilizer/start authorization system.

Renault Clio 4 ABS / ESP Fuse

The ABS and electronic stability control system is protected by high-current circuits in the engine compartment.

Depending on the version, these include:

  • EF3 – 25A/30A
  • EF7 – 50A

There are also related ABS/ESC circuits in the passenger compartment fuse panel.

If the ABS or ESC warning light remains illuminated, a blown fuse is only one possible cause. The vehicle may require diagnostic scanning to identify a wheel-speed sensor, wiring or control-module fault.

Renault Clio 4 Heated Rear Window Fuse

The heated rear-window system is connected to several circuits depending on vehicle specification.

Relevant fuses can include:

  • Fuse 38 in the passenger compartment;
  • EF4 – 40A in the engine compartment.

EF4 may also supply the heated exterior mirrors.

Renault Clio 4 Air Conditioning Fuse

Several electrical circuits are involved in operating the Clio IV air-conditioning system.

Important engine-compartment circuits include:

  • EF15 – 15A – A/C compressor clutch circuit;
  • EF23 – 15A – engine-management/fan/A/C relay control.

The passenger-compartment fuse box also contains circuits associated with climate-control equipment.

If the A/C compressor does not engage, the problem can also be related to refrigerant pressure, the compressor clutch, pressure sensor, wiring or engine ECU control.

How to Replace a Fuse in a Renault Clio 4

  1. Switch off the engine and ignition.
  2. Turn off headlights and other electrical equipment.
  3. Locate the appropriate fuse box.
  4. Remove the protective cover.
  5. Identify the required fuse using the diagram.
  6. Remove the fuse with a fuse puller.
  7. Inspect the metal element inside the fuse.
  8. Replace a blown fuse with one of exactly the same amperage rating.
  9. Reinstall the fuse-box cover.
  10. Test the affected electrical component.

If the replacement fuse blows immediately, do not repeatedly install new fuses. The circuit should be inspected for a short circuit or defective component.

Common Renault Clio 4 Fuse Problems

Cigarette lighter does not work

Start by checking Fuse 17 (15A).

Radio or multimedia system does not work

Check the circuits associated with Fuse 18 and related multimedia power supplies.

Fuel pump does not operate

Inspect the fuel-system circuits, including Fuse 22, EF14 and the appropriate fuel-pump relay.

Starter does not operate

Check EF12 (30A), the starter relay, battery and starter wiring.

Heated rear window does not work

Check the passenger-compartment heating circuit and EF4 (40A) in the engine compartment.

ABS/ESP warning light is on

Check the relevant ABS/ESP fuses, but remember that a diagnostic trouble code scan may be necessary.

Renault Clio 4 Fuse Box FAQ

Where is the fuse box on a Renault Clio 4?

The main interior fuse box is located under the dashboard on the driver’s side. Another fuse and relay box is installed in the engine compartment.

Which fuse is for the Renault Clio 4 cigarette lighter?

On the configuration described here, the cigarette lighter / 12V socket is protected by Fuse No. 17 (15A).

Where is the Renault Clio 4 fuel pump fuse?

Fuel-system circuits are associated with Fuse 22 in the passenger compartment and EF14 (25A) in the engine compartment, depending on the vehicle configuration.

Where is the starter fuse?

EF12 (30A) in the engine compartment is associated with the starter circuit.

Can I install a higher-amperage fuse?

No. Always use a replacement fuse with the specified amperage. Installing a higher-rated fuse can allow excessive current through the wiring and may cause electrical damage or fire.
