The error message ” Engine malfunction, loss of power. Drive moderately and consult the nearest BMW Service Center ” appears in the multifunction display if there is a problem with the injection or ignition system .

When this error message appears in the multifunction display (MFD or MFA) , a yellow engine control lamp also appears in the on-board computer (BC) of the instrument cluster (KI). If the error message appears, you should visit a BMW workshop immediately to avoid any subsequent damage .

The problem is said to occur primarily in BMW models built between 2007 and 2013 with an N53 engine . The N53 is a six-cylinder inline gasoline engine with fuel injection.
