This article will be especially interesting to those who already  live and often travel by car in Montenegro and Serbia.  And also relevant for those who are planning a trip to these countries. I will share general information and, of course, tell you about a way to save on this article costs. If someone had told me about this before the start of the warm season, we would have already saved a lot of time (and a little money) with our weekly trips to the sea, then to the mountains.

Let’s start with the fact that there are toll roads in Montenegro. One of them is  the Sozina tunnel  , which, passing through the mountains, significantly shortens and facilitates the route from Podgorica to the coast, in particular in Sutomore, Bar, Ulcinj. Its length is 4183 m. This road is also the only one for those who want to get from Podgorica to the coast without changing the summer tires on their car to winter ones during the appropriate period (from November 15 to March 31 – when winter tires are required on the Podgorica – Budva route, because the road passes through a mountain pass where snow can fall).

The one-way fare depends on the type of vehicle: for a car it is 2.5 EUR, for a moped it is 1.5 EUR.

The second toll section of the road is the  Podgorica – Mateševo route (  which is next
to the popular winter resort of Kolasin). and demographic integration of Montenegro, connecting the Northern, Central and Southern regions” (quote from the official website) This highway was opened in June 2022, and it has significantly started saving travel time on this route, because it passes through the mountains, rather than bypassing them.

I love this highway because, besides being picturesque outside the tunnels, it is also multi-lane and fast (there is no such thing anywhere else in Montenegro). 5 EUR for a moped.

We continue and leave Montenegro – we head to Serbia.  There is a whole network of high-quality, high-speed, at least two-lane and, of course, toll roads here.

The cost depends on the section (and, of course, the type of vehicle) but, for example, the section from Belgrade to Novi Sad is 3 EUR.

Payment is possible everywhere in three ways: cash, bank card, and electronically.
