S-Bahn – suburban railway

The most convenient way to get to the city center is to take  the S-Bahn suburban train  line  S19  towards  Düren  or  RB 27  , which will take you directly to the main train station  Köln Hauptbahnhof  (located right next to the famous Cologne Cathedral).

Trains run to/from the airport approximately every  20 minutes  during the week and slightly less frequently on weekends. Travel time  is approximately 15-17 minutes  . We choose  Köln Flughafen Köln/Bonn Flughafen Bf  as the starting station and  Köln Hbf  as the ending station.

We can buy a ticket from the machine before going down to the platform. The price of a single ticket is  €3.50  (you must purchase a ticket type  1b  / Preisstufe 1b). A ticket for children (6-14 years) costs  €1.80  . Group tickets are also available.

If we intend to use public transport that day, it is worth considering purchasing  a 24-hour  ticket for  8.50 euros  (ticket type 1b).
