Slovenia is a southern European country that encourages more and more tourists to visit. Anyone who wants to travel to Slovenia by car should not forget to purchase a vignette. We will tell you how to do it and what to pay special attention to.

When going to Slovenia, you should familiarize yourself with the map of toll roads and freeways. Vignettes apply in this country. Until January 31, 2022, a traditional window sticker could be purchased, and from February 1, 2022, only electronic vignettes are valid. However, annual e-vignettes are valid from January 1, 2022. Slovenia – types of vignettes and prices for 2025

Slovenian vignettes are available in different types depending on the validity period and type of vehicle. Let’s check the prices of vignettes in Slovenia:

Motorcycles:

  • annual – 58.70 euros,
  • six months – 32 euros,
  • per week – 8 euros.

Passenger cars and vans weighing up to 3.5 tons and no more than 1.3 m in height (class 2A):

  • annual – 117.50 euros,
  • monthly – 32 euros,
  • weekly – 16 euros.

Passenger cars and vans weighing up to 3.5 tons and no more than 1.3 m in height (class 2B):

  • annual – 235 euros,
  • monthly – 64.10 euros,
  • per week – 32 euros.

It is worth knowing that the height of the car is measured above the front axle.

In addition to having a vignette, there is  another mandatory road tax  . If you want to drive through the 8-kilometer Karavanka tunnel, which connects Austria to Slovenia, you will have to pay approximately 8.20 euros.

Which vehicles in Slovenia require vignettes?

Slovenia vignette is mandatory for cars and trucks up to 3.5 tons. Motorcycle drivers are also required to purchase a vignette. Slovenia divides the vignettes according to the height of the vehicles. So, those that do not exceed 1.3 meters (class 2A) have cheaper vignettes, and higher ones (class 2B) are more expensive.  On the dars.si website, you can check which category your car belongs to,  for example, categories with a lower height and a cheaper vignette:

Vignette in Slovenia – where to buy?

Until 2022, Slovenia’s vignettes were traditional (window stickers).  Electronic vignettes are currently in effect.  In addition to the Internet, they can be purchased at the border, from official sellers. You can also buy at gas stations, but you should return to the route so as not to drive on toll roads without a vignette, as you may be fined.

How to buy a vignette online in Slovenia?

Slovenia vignettes are available at evinjeta.dars.si. You can choose 5 language versions –  Slovenian, English, Italian, German, Croatian  . Unfortunately, there is no Ukrainian version. What is the penalty for not having a vignette in Slovenia?

In countries where vignettes are mandatory, fines are imposed on drivers who do not have them. It is no different in Slovenia.  The fine for not having a vignette is 300 euros  . In addition, you must also pay for the vignette immediately. It is not worth delaying the purchase and driving even a small section of the road without a vignette, because this can lead to unnecessary expenses. It is best to buy a vignette online or at the border. Prices for a vignette in Slovenia are much lower than a fine.

Then you need to enter your e-mail address and open the link that came to your e-mail. The next step is to enter  the registration number, the country of registration of the vehicle and the effective date of the electronic vignette.  The registration number is entered twice to avoid an error that could invalidate the vignette. If you buy Slovenia vignettes online, you should carefully check the entered data, i.e. the registration number. The correct registration number must be entered in the electronic vignette system. In case of an error, the purchased vignette will be considered invalid. It is also worth remembering that Slovenia vignettes can be purchased no earlier than 30 days before the first day of validity. You should not postpone the purchase until the last moment, because driving even on a short stretch of Slovenian road without a vignette can result in a fine.

How does the vignette work in Slovenia?

After the changes that came into force in 2022, vignettes in Slovenia are electronic. This means you no longer need to put a sticker on your windshield.
