For comfortable operation with the multimedia system in the Model S, including the ability to remotely control the car’s functions from the application on the smartphone, it was necessary to replace the built-in SIM card with a local operator’s card. The SIM is located inside the monitor. Removing it requires some disassembly of the instrument panel. Including, the upper part of the panel with the passenger AirBag is partially dismantled and lifted.

In this model, the built-in SIM card is used for LTE connectivity, navigation, online services, and synchronization with the Tesla server. Using a local mobile operator often requires a physical SIM replacement or reinstallation of the modem for a different region.
