Tolls in Albania

Until recently, motorways were free. However, currently  you have to pay around €5 per car on the section of the A1 Rruga e Kombit that runs west from the Kosovo border towards Tirana.  There is one collection point on 130 km of the highway. Mandatory equipment that should be in a car in Albania

When traveling to Albania,  you must equip your car with mandatory items. It:

  • seat belts,
  • first aid kit,
  • warning triangle.

In Albania, it is also recommended to have a fire extinguisher and a tow rope with you, but it is not necessary. In addition, due to the lack of many auto repair shops, it is worth taking basic tools and spare parts with you.

Albania – the most important traffic rules and speed limits

The condition of the roads in Albania is not the best, but it is better than in Ukraine, so fast driving is not recommended. Let’s check  what the speed limits are:

  • in populated areas, the speed limit for all vehicles is 40 km/h,
  • outside settlements, the movement of passenger cars is limited to 80-90 km/h,
  • on highways, the speed limit for passenger cars is 110 km/h.

In addition, it should be remembered that  in Albania, seat belts are mandatory  for both drivers and passengers. However, low beam headlights are mandatory when visibility is limited due to weather conditions and when driving in tunnels.

When driving on Albanian roads, you need to be especially careful not only because of the condition of the roads, but also because of the traffic lights, which local drivers do not pay much attention to. In addition, the roads are not lit, so you need to be more careful at night to avoid a collision or an accident.
